In an article published today, April 17, 2018 via BizBash, it was noted that hosting large scale events in New York City may become more difficult, allowing only four full liquor and four beer and wine permits per year for events with one thousand or more attendees.
This proposal will be addressed at a hearing on Wednesday, April 18.
Why is this a concern? In essence, this change is to address the “spate of very large, one night, pop up nightclubs and/or dance parties taking place in unlicensed premises such as warehouses”—which pose safety hazards. Yet, it impacts legitimate caterers who frequently serve events of 1,000 or more guests throughout the year.
Abigail Kirsch is just one of many, many New York catering companies that would be affected by this change.
