Trend Alert: The 70s Are Back in Boho Weddings

It’s no secret that Boho Chic has been on the rise for the last few seasons, but lately we have seen couples add in more of a 70s twist to go along with it. This style is heavily influenced by hippie and gypsy culture, along with the outdoors and nature. Think deserted beaches, rustic farmhouses, or an open field set in the country.

With that, let’s take a look at what we can expect from this vintage vibe:

The fashion

With more relaxed and vintage styles making their way back onto the runways, it’s no wonder we’re seeing a throwback in wedding fashion as well. According to David Merrell of AOO Events in the 2017 International Trend Report, “The 70s styling has come back on the runways in the past two seasons, so it is now making it through to event design as well. It fits really well with the bohemian chic theme, which is so huge amongst millennials.” Items like headbands, flower crowns, and mismatched florals are the perfect accents to set off the look.

Perception of being cost effective

One of the reasons this theme has gained such popularity is its perception of being inexpensive—which millennials are drawn to. This can be translated easily by using lots of DIY style and simple décor. However, don’t be fooled by the simplicity because you need to really understand how to pull all these eclectic elements together so it doesn’t end up looking like a total mish mash of things like more like a roadside flea market, than a beautifully styled wedding.

The call to nature

As I stated in the intro, this trend is heavily influenced by the outdoors and a love of nature. Think wreaths, greenery, and details like dishware, décor and centerpieces all being inspired by the outside. “Natural elements such as wood, natural marble, geode stones, etc. are making their way into designs, especially table top design,” shares Merrell. “This is due largely to the millennial sensibilities of always tying back to nature.”

Who would have thought the 70s could have ever been seen as chic? It’s one of the reasons it has quickly become a favorite, and we anticipate seeing it much more in the upcoming year.
