One of the most exciting times of the year is upon us, when we take a look into the future and predict the new year’s emerging trends. In candles and lighting, we expect to see a continuation of some of the most popular uses of 2017, along with some new twists on old favorites.
Mixing it up
If you love silver, gold and brass, you no longer have to choose just one. Combine votives, candlestick holders, lanterns and candelabras of different tones into a single scene or tablescape. Mixed metals look incredible together.
Taper candles
One of the classics of the candle world is back and bigger than ever: the taper candle. Romantic, simple and clean, tapers add height and drama to tables, but never look overdone.

Amber glow
They say that everyone looks better by candlelight, and one of the coming trends is adding an amber glow to events by capitalizing on this effect. Wax luminaries and LED lights can create a soft luminescence. Adding string lights to an amber-lit area adds a fun, old-world twist that is also very popular at the moment.
Marble
One of the most classic of all design materials, marble has once again taken the design world by storm. It’s highly popular in interior design and has crossed over into fashion and events. Since it’s impractical to haul in literal tons of dense, expensive marble features for your events, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the many accents that come in faux-marble finish.
Marble looks exquisite when paired with metallic tones, so consider combining marble candleholders, stands or pillars with metallic traditional and LED candles, or feature both marble and metallic votive holders and stands at the same table.
Use marble to anchor a classically themed event, or bring in marble accents in a thoroughly modern and industrial setting. It works as well in a refined design as it does against cement or concrete in a super-modern scene.
Technology
Technology keeps redefining what is cutting-edge for event design. Rechargeable and battery operated LED candles are increasingly popular, as they satisfy venue safety requirements while looking great. They have come a long way and now look more natural than ever, making them excellent options for conscientious event clients who want awesome design and a commitment to sustainable practices.
We get excited about new candle and lighting design ideas every year, and this one is no exception. We can’t wait to experiment with some of the hottest anticipated trends. What about you? What are you most looking forward to as we forecast the new year’s trends?
