Like my mother, Vicki, the Elderflower martini is strong, offers a touch of sweet, is a tiny bit sour, and is also very pretty. While this complex and balanced cocktail can be found in various forms online, this particular iteration is my go-to.
Cheers to all of the mothers who may not be able to hug their kids in person on May 10 (including me) but can perhaps be consoled with this delicious libation.

Elderflower Martini
Serves one
Ingredients
1.5 oz Sipsmith gin
1.5 oz Ketel One vodka
.5 oz St. Germain Elderflower liqueur
.5 oz fresh lemon juice
.5 oz simple syrup (such as Monin or 1:1 water-to-sugar ratio)
2 dashes Scrappy’s orange bitters
3 dashes *Peychaud’s bitters
Lemon wheel & Fresh Origins flower garnish (as shown) or (my personal favorite) 1 Lehmann Farms Vermouth Soaked Martini Olive (I like the added hint of saltiness—yet another characteristic I could attribute to my mother)
*It’s the gentian-based Peychaud’s bitters that imbue the pretty pink tinge to the cocktail
Method
In a shaker, add ice and all ingredients. Cap and shake until outside of your Boston begins to frost up. Decant into a coupe and garnish. Enjoy!
