The Modern Jewish Destination Wedding

As all-inclusive properties expand to more diverse offerings, there is no reason for any couple to have anything other than the wedding of their dreams, be it at home or on the other side of the world.

Nowadays, tying the knot abroad doesn’t have to entail sacrificing traditions or expressions of faith. Instead, it offers the unique opportunity for couples to celebrate their vows among loved ones anywhere they so choose.

Today, Jewish destination weddings are not only possible but also quite popular with to-be-weds! As many properties are becoming more sensitive to all dietary restrictions, Kosher options have become increasingly available at some resorts. In fact, Riviera Maya and Cancun both lead the way with numerous options for Jewish celebrations.

Know the priorities

Communication is key when picking out the most suitable venue, especially if there are specific needs for the big day. A destination wedding specialist will want to know the couples’ specific preferences or expectations ahead of time, ensuring that the details are conveyed well in advance in order to find the very best fit.

On-site décor

For couples taking their special day on the road, they may be lucky enough to find a venue to provide some traditional on-site décor, even if it is limited. Although destination weddings tend to be simpler than many at-home weddings, there are still some considerations to keep in mind for a Jewish celebration. For example, some venues have a chuppah that can be decorated to a couple’s preferences, saving them the headache of figuring out those logistics. In other instances, local talent may have to be brought in to execute particular requests.

Careful packing

Jewish wedding vows would not be complete without an intricate ketubah for the pair to sign, but chances are they will want it customized ahead of time. If that’s the case, transportation is as simple as rolling it up and sliding it into a shipping tube and tucking it into a suitcase. Couples can even reach out to the venue to see if they’re able to ship some of their décor ahead of time to minimize the amount they have to travel with.

There’s no reason that a Jewish destination wedding can’t have all the traditions that would be celebrated at home. With the right team in place, any couple can have the wedding of their dreams while still honoring cultural and religious customs.
